At the Android Dev Summit on October 28, Google put AppFunctions, Android's tool-calling layer, into beta so apps can share their capabilities with on-device or system agents through Android MCP. Google also added A2UI for Jetpack Compose in alpha, which lets agents reply with interactive UI built from an app's own components. And there's an alpha Agentic API in ML Kit on Gemini Nano 4 that runs functions, keeps chat history, and manages the agent loop. On the developer side, Android Studio Rabbit 2 is stable with support for Claude Agent, Codex, Antigravity, and over 40 other ACP-compliant agents, and Android CLI now has official plugins for Claude Code and Codex.
