GitHub said on October 28 that GitHub Agentic Workflows, an open source project from GitHub Next, is generally available on github.com for GitHub Free, Team, and Enterprise. You describe an automation, such as issue triage, CI failure analysis, documentation updates, or test writing, in a natural-language Markdown file. It compiles to standard Actions YAML, so it reuses your existing runner groups and policy constraints. Each workflow can run on GitHub Copilot or a coding agent you bring yourself, and the default Copilot CLI engine needs a Copilot license. Agents run with read-only permissions by default inside a sandboxed container behind the Agent Workflow Firewall. Outputs go through a safe outputs check, and a threat detection job scans proposed changes before they apply. New since the public preview: self-hosted ARC runners with Docker-in-Docker, a non-experimental gh aw forecast for AI credit spend, per-workflow model providers, a model router, and micro-VM isolation.
