n8n released the 3.0.0 beta on October 27, with the stable release due in early December. It adds no new features. It removes legacy nodes (Function, Item Lists, Cron, Interval, the legacy OpenAI node, older AI Agent modes), tightens security defaults, cuts the default Code node timeout from 5 minutes to 1 minute, and runs manual executions on workers in queue mode. Self-hosted n8n now needs Docker, since npm and npx installs are no longer supported. Instances on 2.39 or later have a Migration Report under Settings that flags affected workflows and fixes many automatically. Upgrading is one way. 2.x gets security and critical fixes for 12 months after the stable release, and 1.x support ends December 31, 2026.
